About Us:
Careers in nuclear energy offer challenging work with competitive salaries and benefits, and can be found in the heart of the Midwest at NextEra Energy Duane Arnold Energy Center (DAEC). The DAEC is Iowa’s only nuclear power plant and is bordered by cornfields of neighboring farms and the banks of the Cedar River. The plant is 70 percent owned by NextEra Energy Duane Arnold; 20 percent by Central Iowa Power Cooperative, and 10 percent by Corn Belt Power Cooperative. It produces 625 megawatts, enough to power approximately 500,000 Iowa homes.
The DAEC has been an important part of the electric energy supply system in Iowa since the plant’s startup in 1974. For more than 35 years it has been generating safe, clean energy, and continues to be an important part of a diverse energy mix for its customers. In February 2009 the station marked 667 days online, its longest stretch of consecutive days connected to the grid in plant history.
The DAEC uses a proven operating philosophy based on safety first, conservative decision making, a commitment to the task at hand and doing the job right the first time. It is this philosophy, combined with tremendous employee dedication, that enables the DAEC to meet the challenges of a competitive environment in the utility industry.
The DAEC is a thriving workplace and giving neighbor to its local community. The plant employs more than 600 Iowans with an annual payroll of $40.8 million and offers careers for engineers, technicians, craft workers and other professionals in positions ranging from entry-level to mid-career and those with military training and service.
